About Boxcar Flower Farm
Women-Owned Organic Flower Farm in West Oakland
Boxcar Flower Farm is a thriving, women-owned flower farm located in front of the historic 16th Street train station at 16th and Wood Streets in West Oakland, California. Founded by Jane Hammond and Linh Becker during the COVID-19 pandemic, the farm began as a volunteer effort and blossomed into a vibrant, sustainable urban farm.
Spanning just one-sixth of an acre, Boxcar Flower Farm is a model for regenerative agriculture. Years of soil enrichment and pollinator-friendly planting have transformed this former parking lot into a flourishing ecosystem. The farm grows a diverse selection of seasonal flowers using organic methods and supports local biodiversity with beehives, a worm composting system, and an abundance of pollinator plants—not to mention a resident farm cat. The beauty of the farm's greenery and the dedicated owners behind the operation is captured above in a photograph by Julie Reichle.
Boxcar Flower Farm offers a popular flower CSA subscription for local customers, delivering fresh, seasonal bouquets directly to their doors. They also specialize in custom floral arrangements for weddings and events, including corsages, boutonnieres, and venue decorations. Their floral work has even been featured in San Francisco Giants stadium suites. In addition to event florals, Jane and Linh give back through regular donations to community organizations.
